Date: April 22–23, 9:00–17:00 CET

Location: FabLab Innovation Center, Saarland University Campus (building A2.1), 66123 Saarbrücken

Lecturers: Jannik Jost and Daniel Silva (Saarland University). J. Jost – Mechanical engineer and Head of the Fablab UdS. Supports students in rapid prototyping – from the initial idea through CAD to the physical prototype. Has founded a company himself and brings this experience into hands-on digital fabrication, fast iteration, and the meaningful use of workshop and prototyping tools.

Training content
This two-day Rapid Prototyping Workshop introduces participants to the principles and practical methods of prototyping, using both analog and digital tools. Through hands-on sessions in a well-equipped FabLab, interdisciplinary teams develop and refine their own prototype ideas, gaining first experiences with tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, and microcontrollers. The workshop fosters creativity, user-centered thinking, and collaboration, while emphasizing feasibility and iteration. Each team presents its prototype in a final pitch session, receiving constructive feedback. Optional elements such as expert input, certification, or follow-up workshops can enrich the experience.

Program Highlights
• Introduction to the purpose and value of prototyping in innovation and problem-solving
• Overview of commonly used prototyping tools and techniques (digital and analog)
• Hands-on activities focused on developing and prototyping participants’ own ideas
• Interdisciplinary collaboration and creative thinking
• Reflection on prototypes with regard to user-centeredness and feasibility
